On Wednesday at 11:04 PM a Mason County MI Sheriff's Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on a blue Chevy Impala for failing to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle fled from the deputy north of Morse Rd from Dewey Rd. The vehicle failed to stop and eventually crossed into Lake County.Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office assisted Mason County deputies during the 34 mile chase, which reached speeds of nearly 100 MPH. The chase ended when the suspect vehicle failed to stop at the end of a dead end road and struck a tree.The driver then fled on foot, but was captured after a short foot chase. The driver, a 44 year-old Ludington man was arrested on charges of Fleeing and Eluding law enforcement and Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) 5th offense. ...

Michigan will lift all indoor capacity restrictions and mask requirements June 22nd, 10 days sooner than planned amid vaccinations and plummeting COVID-19 infections, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced today.The state’s main coronavirus order will expire at the end of Monday instead of July 1, bringing an end to mandatory 50% occupancy limits inside restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues and at indoor events like weddings and funerals.“Today is a day that we have all been looking forward to, as we can safely get back to normal day-to-day activities and put this pandemic behind us,” Whitmer, a Democrat, said in statement issued 15 months after she first signed emergency orders to control the coronavirus. “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the medical experts and health professionals who stood on the front lines to keep us all safe.”About 4.9 million residents, or 60%, of those ages 16 and older have gotten at least one vaccine dose.State health officials said some virus orders will remain in place to protect vulnerable populations in prisons, long-term care facilities and the agriculture industry.
