Engineering Students Suspend VW Beetle From Sacred Rock Face in British Columbia [VIDEO]

In late March, engineering students from the University of British Columbia hung a hollow Volkswagen Beetle from a rock formation known as The Papoose in Squamish. The car, painted red, displays a Canadian flag on its hood and features the letter E on its roof.

Due to safety concerns, British Columbia's Ministry of Environment & Parks has closed off the site and intends to remove the vehicle within a week. The car is suspended above power lines and Highway 99, posing significant risks if it were to fall.

A representative from Parks stated that the prank "has placed an unnecessary strain on park operations at one of the busiest times of the year."

The Squamish Nation strongly criticized the act, emphasizing that the rock face is sacred and that "placing or hanging anything upon it is extremely disrespectful both to our People, and to our land."

This is not the first time UBC engineering students have executed such stunts; they previously suspended similar Volkswagen Beetles from San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge in 2001 and Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge in 2008.
