WKRP Call Letters Set to Land on Authentic Cincinnati Station After 48-Year Wait

The legendary WKRP call sign is finally making its way to Cincinnati after a 48-year hiatus, confirmed D.P. McIntire, the media nonprofit leader responsible for selling the renowned letters.

"I cannot, by contract, disclose the timing or the buyer. However, I can tell you directly, WKRP is coming back to Cincinnati after 48 years," McIntire told The Associated Press. "Mark my words! It’s finalized!"

The WKRP call letters rose to prominence through the 1978-1982 CBS sitcom featuring Loni Anderson and Richard Sanders.

McIntire obtained the FCC call sign in 2014 for his North Carolina-based station after initially requesting it as a lighthearted third choice.

His station, WKRP-LP 101.9 FM, broadcast from 2015 until recently, operating at 100 watts and reaching audiences within a 4-12 mile radius.

Funds from the sale will support Independent Broadcast Consultants, an organization dedicated to assisting new broadcasters in launching their ventures successfully.

"It will be used for radio," McIntire confirmed regarding the Cincinnati plans, though contractual obligations prevent him from revealing additional specifics.
