University of Calgary Breaks Guinness World Record with 682 Dinosaur Costume Participants

On Saturday, the University of Calgary set a new Guinness World Record by gathering 682 people dressed in dinosaur costumes as part of the university’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

The crowd assembled outside the Taylor Family Digital Library, showcasing a variety of prehistoric dinosaur outfits. This impressive turnout exceeded the previous record of 468 participants, which was established last year by the Cox Science Center and Aquarium located in West Palm Beach, Florida. The accomplishment is particularly meaningful given that the university’s sports teams are known as the Dinos.

"The old record is extinct," remarked Ed McCauley, the university’s president and vice-chancellor. "This is a fantastic example of the University of Calgary and our Calgary community uniting to achieve a world record."

A Guinness World Records official was present at the event to officially verify and confirm that the record had been successfully surpassed during the festivities.
