SURVEY: Gen Z and Hispanic Americans Exhibit Highest Optimism Regarding the American Dream

A recent survey conducted by Talker Research involving 2,000 American participants indicates that 58% continue to believe in the American Dream as achievable in 2026. Among these respondents, Hispanic Americans demonstrate a higher level of optimism at 61%, compared to 55% among non-Hispanic individuals. Generation Z stands out with the highest optimism rate across all age groups, reaching 67%.

Despite facing greater financial stress and carrying more debt, 56% of Hispanic Americans feel confident they will personally attain the American Dream, while only 51% of non-Hispanics share this belief.

Today’s Americans primarily define the American Dream as owning a home (41%), having the means to cover unexpected expenses (35%), and being free from debt (34%).

Currently, 70% of Americans are in debt, with an average credit card balance of $11,246. Hispanic respondents are more likely to carry credit card debt, with 41% reporting such debt compared to 36% of non-Hispanics; nevertheless, they maintain a more positive outlook on their financial future.
