Station History

WMOM signed on the air in 1999 serving the Ludington and Pentwater region with a contemporary hit radio format and a strong focus on local programming and community involvement. Since its launch, the station has remained dedicated to providing West Michigan listeners with current hit music along with local information and community service broadcasting.

In 2020, the station entered a new era when Hit Radio Media, LLC acquired the station and returned it to the airwaves with a renewed commitment to local radio. Since that time, WMOM has continued to invest in its programming, technology, and community presence while maintaining its focus on serving the lakeshore region.

In October 2025, an agreement was reached for the transfer of ownership of Hit Radio Media, LLC. The transaction included a transfer of control on February 23, 2026 and was finalized with closing on March 27, 2026. This transition reflects continued local ownership and long term investment in the station’s future and service to West Michigan.

WMOM’s studio operations have recently transitioned to Grand Rapids to support operational growth and expanded business development. The station remains committed to maintaining its primary coverage area along the West Michigan lakeshore and is actively planning for a future studio presence within the Ludington area as part of its continued local service commitment.

Other than ownership, WMOM staff members live and work within the Mason and Manistee county areas, reinforcing the station’s commitment to local service and community connection.

Today WMOM continues to focus on local engagement, community partnerships, and providing a reliable source of entertainment and information while continuing to evolve to meet the needs of listeners and advertisers throughout the region.
