TROOP BEVERLY HILLS: Cameron Diaz to Lead Reboot of 1989 Cult Classic

Cameron Diaz is set to headline a sequel to the beloved 1980s comedy Troop Beverly Hills, currently in development at TriStar Pictures, according to Deadline.

Details about the plot remain confidential. Clea DuVall will direct the project, working from her own screenplay. This collaboration marks a reunion with the studio following her direction of the critically praised LGBTQ+ romantic comedy Happiest Season, which starred Kristen Stewart.

Originally released by Columbia Pictures in 1989, Troop Beverly Hills drew inspiration from the real-life experiences of writer-producer Ava Fries, who also received producer and story-by credits on the original film. The movie served as a star vehicle for Shelley Long during the peak of her post-Cheers film career. It featured her as a pampered Beverly Hills housewife determined to demonstrate to her daughter that she is capable of embracing the outdoors as a leader of the Wilderness Girls.
