Elvis Presley’s 1968 Comeback Special Guitar Set for Auction

A Hagstrom Viking II electric guitar, famously played by Elvis Presley during his iconic 1968 Comeback Special, is scheduled to be auctioned by Sotheby's with an estimated price range of $1 million to $2 million.

This semi-hollow-body guitar, crafted in Sweden, featured prominently throughout the celebrated television performance on tracks such as "Blue Suede Shoes," "Trouble," and "Guitar Man." Additionally, Presley is pictured holding this cherry red guitar on the cover of his 1969 album Elvis in Memphis.

Although Presley initially planned to use a different guitar, he opted for session guitarist Al Casey's Hagstrom Viking II because its red and black color scheme better complemented the set design.

The auction will be conducted online from April 9 through April 23, with the guitar available for public viewing at Sotheby's New York location.
